Pediatric Oncology
Pediatric Oncology is a subspecialty of medical oncology, where the focus in on providing the best and most state-of-the-art care to the cancers that are unique to children.
The standard of care for a child with cancer is for them to be treated on the standard arm of whatever the last study was or to be enrolled in a current study.
We provide services to children in concert with many regional pediatric cancer centers. The closest options available are Boise, Spokane, Denver and Salt Lake City. We serve as a means of providing that care locally, often in collaboration with those other institutions.
Your child's oncologist will work with you to create a treatment plan and inform you of all treatment options, which might include chemotherapy or other therapy treatments.
Chemotherapy, which is often referred to as “chemo,” is a procedure that attempts to use one or more drugs to attack cancer cells directly in hopes of killing the cancer-stricken area.
Chemotherapy is used to treat many forms of cancer, areas affected by cancer, or cancerous growths including:
- To control an incurable tumor
- To help reduce the size of a tumor before surgery or another form of therapy
- To reduce pain
